Some of his background racing credits include a Solo 1 Rookie of the Year title, a 2nd in Class season finish and a 5th in the Solo overall standings, driving a Porsche 911 and VW Golf VR6. During the 1988 Rothmans Turbo Cup series he crewed for the Pfaff Porsche/POP 84 team, winning the Team Title along with his colleagues for Pfaff Porsche. The same year he graduated from the Advanced Porsche Driving School and followed this up with a year as one of the school’s technical consultants. In 1989 Brad began running track events for Pfaff Porsche, VW and Audi customers. 1992 and ’93 saw Brad take on the role of Crew Chief for Pfaff Racing, running a Jetta GLX 16v, and claiming one victory in their first season with a brand new car. The following year the team finished 3rd in the overall team championship. In his second year as a crew chief, Brad led the team to a 3rd in class finish in their first 24 hours of Mosport with a VW Corrado VR6. In addition to his current role as one of the directors of the Apex driving school, Brad stays grounded as the Service Manager for Pfaff Porsche in Woodbridge.

Gerry Bachmann, Director

Apex Driving School It’s an understatement to refer to Gerry Bachmann as an auto enthusiast. He has always been a keen F1 and ALMS fan and brings his infectious passion for motorsport to his coaching experiences with our many new and returning Apex clients. Gerry is a graduate of both the Bridgestone Racing School (1992) and the Bridgestone Formula 2000 four-day school (1993). Beginning in 1995 Gerry raced Karts at Goodwood for a two-year stint, enjoying the unique challenges of this spirited, fast paced division of driving. A dedicated coach at heart, he was always on the A lists for instructors at various private events at Mosport, Shannonville and Cayuga. He was also an important member of the coaching team for the Driver for a Day events that were held at Shannonville and Mosport between 1999 and 2003. Gerry has a keen understanding of the tracks and the cars that you are driving and he’s eager to share his knowledge with new and returning clients to Apex. When he’s not at a track, Gerry keeps busy in his ongoing role as Manager for the Pfaff Tuning Division of Porsche, Audi and VW, located in Newmarket.

John Mahler, Chief Instructor Apex Driving School
John Mahler’s passion for driving dates back to the 1960s and his first Porsche 356. But it wasn’t until 1986 that he took a definitive step into the motorsport world that has since seen him driving or instructing at 41 tracks in Canada, the U.S.A., and Europe. It all started out calmly enough at Mosport, first driving and then coaching for Porsche and BMW club events. Further afield came the news of Bobby Rahal’s TrackTime based in Ohio and a year later in 1987, John was traveling up and down the U.S. Eastern seaboard and beyond, lapping and instructing at tracks from Sebring, Memphis and Charlotte, to Watkins Glen, Nelson Ledges, Road America and Michigan International, Las Vegas International Speedway and more. Other highlights for John have included the privilege of driving at Italy’s Monza and Targa Florio and at Catalunya in Spain. A consummate organizer with a passion for sharing his knowledge of track etiquette and high performance driving, John has also been asked to participate as an on-track coach for organizations such as Panoz Motorsports of Atlanta, Proformance of B.C., the Ferrari organization, the Lamborghini Club and GM. When John is not busy running track events, he’s at the computer or behind the wheel, dealing with testing, reviews and inquiries, as the Toronto Star’s Tire Guy for Wheels.
